A quick flight from Medellín to a Santa Marta and an hour drive brought us to Gitana del Mar Beach Resort. The resort is on the shores of the Caribbean Sea and in the shadows of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range.
One day we ventured about 20 minutes away by car for a short hike to the Mendihuaca swimming pool and waterfall. The waterfall was named after the King Mendihuaca from the Tayrona Culture.
There we swam, sunbathed, climbed and Ian jumped off the rock formations. We were the only ones at the swimming pool for several hours. As we were thinking about leaving, a group models arrived for a photo shoot.
On our drive back to the resort, a car parked in such a way that no cars could pass. It took about 30 minutes to find the owner, get the key, and move his car to the side of the road. It turned out to belong to the man who drove a group of models who arrived to the swimming pool as we were leaving.
Other than this one excursion, we did a lot of yoga, swimming in the saltwater pool, eating amazing food, making new friends, walking along the beach, lounging in the hammocks and reading. We especially enjoyed our early morning walks to watch the sunrise and our late night walks to gaze at the stars. A great place to recharge.
