The drive out of Brisbane was easy because the car rental was across the street from our hotel. After breakfast and a quick stroll into the Botanic Gardens we drove north for about two hours. We stopped at a scenic outlook on the Balmoral Ridge and discovered a group of people watching a paraglider waiting for winds to pick up. We stopped again for lunch at Little May Espresso in Montville. Our avocado smash was good but the ginger hot chocolate was amazing!!
Noosa is derived from the Aboriginal word meaning “shade” or “shadows” and refers to getting respite from the sun by the tall tress in the area. The Aboriginal people were in what is now called Noosa before the Europeans first arrived in the 1800’s to log the area. Luckily, early settlers set aside a reserve to the protect the area and it became a national park in 1939. We arrived just in time to explore the main street and enjoy a stunning sunset.
We did an afternoon walk past Boiling Pot Outlook (it was low tide), Tea Tree Bay (no koalas), Dolphin’s Point (no dolphins), Winch Cove (no machines), Picnic Cove (no eating) and Hell’s Gate (for a rock formation). The wind picked up and black clouds rolled in so we returned to town (and got soaking wet).
The following morning we woke up as the sun was rising. We quickly set out on the walk again and made it to Sunshine Beach for breakfast at FOMO. Both of our cell phones ran out of battery charge so we followed the road signs back to Noosa. There were still no dolphins or koalas but we did see a group of birds feeding on a group of fish jumping out of the water.
On one of our walks we talked with a local who recommended we eat at Sum Yung Guys—we are sooo glad we took her suggestions. It was spicy and spectacular. Our other meals are what you might expect in a resort town—good but nothing memorable.
On our drive to the airport we stopped for coffee and turmeric tea at Costa Noosa Espresso and at Nutworks for some samples of macadamia nuts. Our favorite (other than chocolate covered) was wasabi.

The title of your book could be CHOCOLATE AND COFFEE IN 35 COUNTRIES
(or however many countries you will have visited)
